Bear Creek Observatory – Bear Creek Observatory is a privately
owned amateur observatory designed and built by Jonathan Fay. The entire structure including the dome was built from scratch from materials available
from your average home improvement store, yet if has advanced features like automation and synchronized tracking of the observatory telescope.
Jewett Observatory (Wa) – The James Richard Jewett
Observatory of Washington State University has as its main instrument a 12-inch-aperture Alvin Clark & Sons refracting telescope with an Alvan Clark
& Sons equatorial mount. The tube is 15 feet long, and still features the original lens polished in 1887-1889 by the elder Lundin, the same optician
that fabricated the world's largest (40-inch) lens at Yerkes Observatory.
Ptolemy's Cafe – Like so many amateur astronomers, I've
always wanted to have my own permanent observatory. Of course, we would all like to have one on top of Mauna Kea but the real world intervenes and
we make compromises. So mine is in my backyard in the middle of the San Francisco Bay Area's huge light dome. Well, actually, at the edge of it; I'm
located in the hills between the ocean and the bay so there's no city to the west of me and little to the south.
